Ph. D. in Geography from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland (2004), Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from the College of Urban and Public Affairs, University of New Orleans (1995), Undergraduate degree in Education from McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada (1992).

PROFILE
 

Dr.  Patrick Haughey, Ph.D., A.I.C.P. is an Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator for the Bachelor of Science in Urban Studies and Planning Degree program in the School of Urban Planning and Regional Studies at the University of New Orleans. 

Dr Haughey received his Ph. D. in Geography from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland (2004) and his Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from the College of Urban and Public Affairs, University of New Orleans (1995).  He has an undergraduate degree in Education from McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada (1992). 

Dr.  Haughey currently teaches the “Housing and Community Development” and “Urban Data Analysis” courses in the Masters of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) Degree Program.  He also teaches the “Shape of the City” and the “Post World War II City” courses as online offerings.

Dr. Haughey’s main research interests are in the areas of Community Planning, Housing, Public Participation and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).  Dr. Haughey is currently a lead sector planner for the Unified New Orleans Plan (UNOP).  This single comprehensive recovery and rebuilding plan for the City of New Orleans is supported by grants from the Rockefeller Foundation and the Greater New Orleans Foundation.

In addition to research and teaching Dr. Haughey has been involved with planning and community development outreach projects in New Orleans for more than a decade.  His outreach activities include support for community GIS and “advocacy” planning.  He has recently worked with local governmental and non-profit organizations including: The City of Harahan, Louisiana, the New Orleans Neighborhood Development Collaborative, (NONDC), Neighborhood Housing Services, (NHS) and other local community organizations in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans.
